The late Highlife legend Daddy Lumba, who was laid to rest on December 13, 2025, will be honoured in a major way by the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), according to its President, Bessa Simons.

In an interview with Channel One TV at the burial grounds at Heroes Park in Kumasi, Bessa Simons revealed that plans are underway to construct a music museum in honour of the legendary singer.

“We at MUSIGA will honour him in a big way. There’s a lot we are planning. We are planning to have a music museum, and we know he would be a very important part of it. Definitely, when our Hall of Fame comes, he has to be in there for people to see, because all over the world, people know Daddy Lumba’s music,” he said.

The MUSIGA President also encouraged young people to take an interest in Highlife music, especially following Ghana’s Highlife being inscribed on UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list.

He noted that Daddy Lumba will be remembered for his immense contribution to the genre, adding that not only MUSIGA but the entire nation has lost a great musician.

Daddy Lumba, born Charles Kwadwo Fosu, passed away on July 26, 2025. Thousands of mourners, music lovers, and dignitaries gathered at Heroes Park on December 13 for his final funeral rites.

The burial concluded months of controversy surrounding the funeral, which had been marked by intense family disputes and legal battles that at times threatened to disrupt the arrangements.

Notable figures who attended the funeral service included NDC’s Johnson Asiedu Nketia, Ashanti Regional Minister Frank Amoakohene, First Lady Lordina Mahama, Osei Kwame Despite, Akwasi Sarpong, Nana Acheampong, and several other personalities who came to pay their last respects to the Highlife legend.
