The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has generated significant funds from various aspirants who have put themselves forward to be elected as the party’s presidential candidate in the next general election, scheduled for 2028.

At the close of the filing of nomination forms by the aspirants on Thursday, August 28, 2025, five party stalwarts successfully filed their documents as required by the party’s constitution.

They are: former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong; former Vice President, Mahamudu Bawumia; the party’s former General Secretary, Kwabena Agyapong; former Education Minister, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum; and former Agric Minister, Dr Bryan Acheampong.

Each of the five aspirants who have thrown their hats into the ring paid a substantial GH¢600,000, comprising a GH¢100,000 nomination fee and a GH¢500,000 filing fee.

In total, the party has raised a significant amount of GH¢3,000,000 from the five aspirants, calculated as five aspirants x GH¢600,000 = GH¢3,000,000

The actual NPP showdown of the presidential primaries is scheduled to take place on January 31, 2026.
