Eric Amponsah, the goalkeeping coach for the Sudan national team, has praised head coach James Kwasi Appiah for his inspirational pre-match motivational talks and his ability to instill confidence in his players.

Sudan secured qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Morocco.

Amponsah believes Kwasi Appiah’s ability to motivate players before games was a key factor in their success.

In an interview with Kessben TV, Amponsah highlighted how Appiah used the war as a motivational tool to inspire the team, demonstrating his understanding of what could drive the players to perform.

“Kwasi has made us understand that even against Brazil, your determination will determine the results you get. He’s also made the players realize that winning is the only thing that brings joy to Sudanese citizens. Whenever the team wins, the war halts for almost four days as people flood the streets to celebrate,” he said.

Amponsah also revealed that Appiah’s decision to allow the players to bond with their families before match days significantly boosts their morale and commitment.

“On match days, Kwasi instructs the players to call their families. When they do, their families always demand a win, and this motivates the players to give their all for the country,” he added.

Kwasi Appiah and Sudan will now shift their focus to the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in March 2026, where they are set to face Senegal.
