Former Black Stars captain John Mensah experienced a brief seizure after scoring the golden goal that secured Ghana’s victory over Brazil in the quarter-finals of the 2001 FIFA U-20 World Cup.

The iconic moment remains one of the highlights of his career, as his immaculate header propelled Ghana into the semi-finals of the tournament.

Following his decisive goal, Mensah was swamped by ecstatic teammates and members of the technical staff in celebration. However, amid the excitement, he suddenly collapsed and lay motionless on the pitch.

One of the technical team members quickly intervened, administering chest pushes to revive him. Moments later, Mensah regained consciousness and rejoined his teammates in celebrating the hard-fought victory.

Adriano gave Brazil the lead in the first half, but the Black Satellites pulled parity in the second half through Abdul Razak before John Mensah scored the winner in extra time.

Ghana advanced to the semi-finals, where they defeated Egypt 2-0, setting up a final showdown against host nation Argentina.

However, coach EK Afrane’s side fell short in the final, suffering a 3-0 defeat to Argentina.
