Ghanaian athlete, Bugase Rexford, of the Ghana Armed Forces won the country’s first gold medal at the 2025 Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) Region II Seniors Championship on August 18, 2025.
The athlete emerged first among his competitors in the men’s discus throw with a distance of 51 meters, remaining a standout after the event.
Bugase’s feat makes him the first Ghanaian to earn a gold medal as athletes continue to compete in various athletics meets.
In the women’s 4x100m relay, Ghana earned the bronze medal, Burkina Faso won silver, while Nigeria clinched the presitgious gold medal.
Nigeria asserted their dominance once again in the men’s 4x100m relay as their team finished first with a time of 39.74s, beating Ghana to the top spot.
In the men’s 1500m, Benin came up first with a gold medal, while Ghana finished second with a silver medal, and Togo picked up the bronze medal after placing third.
Ghana’s Arhtur Kevin Paintsil delivered the silver medal following an impressive run to finish second in the men’s 100m race.
Burkina Faso’s Sita Sibiri stood out in the women’s 400m, as Naayirima Nasong of Ghana finished last.

The event, scheduled to take place from August 18 to 19, 2025, at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, is ongoing.
Team Ghana hopes to gain a respectable position on the medal table by the end of the event.
