Ghana have two points from four games in the qualifiers

Ghana’s chances of qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations have reached a near-impossibility level following a 2-0 defeat to Sudan on Tuesday, October 15, 2024.

The defeat at the hands of coach Kwasi Appiah’s Sudan means that Ghana has just two points from four matches played in the qualifiers.

With Angola beating Niger in the other Group F game to confirm their qualification, Ghana now needs a miracle to qualify for the AFCON.

Group F standings

After Tuesday’s round of matches, Angola have increased their points tally to 12 with a goal difference of plus five, while Sudan now has seven points with a goal difference of plus two.

The Black Stars of Ghana have two points and a goal difference of minus three, placing them in third, with Niger coming fourth with a single point and a goal difference of minus four.

Next round of qualifiers

The fifth and sixth rounds of qualifiers will be played in November 2024, with Ghana playing Angola and Niger while Sudan play the same opponents.

Ghana will play Angola away and Niger at home, while Sudan will play Niger away and Angola at home.

How can Ghana qualify

Angola have been confirmed as the team from Group F that have qualified so far, leaving Ghana and Sudan to fight for just one spot.

For Ghana to miraculously qualify for the tournament, they have to win their last two matches and hope that Sudan loses both games to Niger and Angola.

Ghana now have two points, and the victories will take them to eight points. If Sudan lose their two games, they will be stuck on seven points, which will grant Ghana passage to the tournament in Morocco.

A draw for Sudan in any of the two games will push them to eight points and confirm their qualification as they have a better head-to-head record than Ghana.
