A Plus (L) slams Twum Barimah (R) for interrogating Abu Trica (M) A Plus (L) slams Twum Barimah (R) for interrogating Abu Trica (M)

The Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, has called out the Deputy Commissioner of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), Alexander Twum Barimah, after a video of the arrest of social media influencer Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, went viral.

Twum Barimah, in the said video, is heard questioning Abu Trica, who was in handcuffs and insisted that he would only answer the questions in the presence of his lawyers.

In a post shared on Facebook on Sunday, December 14, 2025, the Gomoa Central legislator pointed out that Twum Barimah’s action in the video was wrong.

He indicated that the NACOC boss was forcing the suspect to answer a question contrary to the laws of the country.

“Article 14 of the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana is clear, unambiguous, and non-negotiable. It exists to protect citizens from arbitrary arrest, abuse of power, and lawlessness disguised as law enforcement.

“14 (4) ‘A person arrested shall not be compelled to make any confession or admission except voluntarily and with full respect for due process.’ In this case, Abu Trica expressly stated that he would only speak in the presence of his lawyer. That is not defiance. That is not obstruction. That is a constitutional right,” he said.

He indicated the NACOC deputy commissioner should have known better because he (Twum Barimah) is a lawyer.

“So one must ask — how does a whole lawyer choose to ignore this and interrogate a suspect under duress? Aaaaba!!!” A Plus wrote.

    What Twum Barimah said:

During the arrest on December 11, 2025, the Deputy Commissioner of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), Alexander Twum Barimah, questioned him about his source of income.

Handcuffed and seated, Abu Trica fumbled in his response, stating that he had already provided the information to another officer. Twum Barimah, however, pressed for a clear answer, eventually eliciting a vague reply that Abu Trica does “a lot of jobs” without specifying further.

How the BBC reported Abu Trica’s arrest in Ghana

Check out how the conversation unfolded:

Twum Barimah: What work do you do? I am the one asking the question. I don’t care about what you told somebody in my absence.

Abu Trica: My lawyer should answer the question. I have already done this thing. Ask the other people.

Twum Barimah: We are asking you questions under arrest about your work, and you want your lawyer to answer that? The lawyer cannot answer that question for you.

Abu Trica: The last time your officer came here, I answered the same question.

Twum Barimah: I am asking you. Just answer.

Abu Trica: The last time I explained it to the senior man. I keep saying it. I have not done any transaction for me to be handcuffed.

Twum Barimah: I haven’t asked about any transaction. I need the work that you do, so just say it.

Abu Trica: The jobs that I do are a lot.

The 31-year-old social media influencer, who appeared visibly shaken during his arrest, now faces charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering in the United States, carrying potential prison sentences of up to 20 years.

He was arrested in Ghana following a joint operation with US authorities, who are seeking his extradition.
