Kankam Boadu (R) believes Thomas Partey (L) will be cleared of rape charges

Ace sports journalist Bright Kankam Boadu has raised concerns about the rape charges levelled against Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey.

The footballer was charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault on July 5, 2025.

According to the Metropolitan Police, the offences are reported to have taken place between 2021 and 2022.

The charges involve three women: two counts of rape relate to one woman, three counts of rape involve a second woman, and one count of sexual assault pertains to a third woman.

In response, Boadu questioned the woman who accused the former Arsenal midfielder of raping her three times, asking why she allowed it to happen multiple times if she was not interested.

The former SWAG Sports Journalist of the Year award winner noted that he trusts Partey’s claim of innocence due to the nature of the charges he is facing.

“People ask me to refrain from commenting on the issue, but there are certain things I don’t understand, and I pray the truth comes out in the end since he claims to be innocent. I am beginning to believe him [Partey], how can one woman accuse him of raping her three times?

“Does it mean that after the first time, she kept going back to be treated the same way? The charges seem a bit dubious. Let’s allow the process to continue so the truth can be determined,” he said in Twi while speaking on Pure FM.

He further urged Ghanaians not to pass judgment on the case until the trial ends and a final decision is made regarding the Black Stars midfielder.

“I am not defending him, but we should allow the trial to proceed without rushing to judgment. Similar charges were levelled against Neymar, but he was found innocent later, so we should be cautious,” he added.
