Frank Annoh Dompreh is the MP for Nsawam-Adoagyiri

Social media users are criticising the Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh Dompreh, after he referred to President John Dramani Mahama as a “dead goat” during a campaign event.

While addressing NPP delegates on Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign tour in the Eastern Region, Annoh Dompreh argued that even “a dead goat like Mahama” managed a political comeback.

He claimed that since Mahama once lost power and later returned as president, Dr Bawumia, who has also left office after two terms as vice president, could follow the same path.

Bawumia can return to lead Ghana just as Mahama did – Frank Annoh Dompreh

“If the so-called ‘dead sheep’ could return and become president, and if Mahama could lose power and come back to lead again, then I believe former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia can also return and become president,” he said.

Dr Bawumia, the NPP’s 2024 flagbearer, is currently touring the regions to meet delegates ahead of the party’s January 31, 2025, flagbearer election.

The contest is expected to be tight, with Kennedy Agyapong, Kwabena Agyepong, Bryan Acheampong, and Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum also in the race.

Annoh Dompreh’s statements have sparked backlash online, with many questioning the tone and strategy of Bawumia’s campaign team.

One user wrote: “What is really wrong with Dr Bawumia and his communicators? K.T. Hammond, Wontumi, Abronye, KoKa, Atta Kyea, Annoh Dompreh… and the reserve team is Afia Swar, Ghana Jollof and Fante Comedy. What a solid team indeed.”

Another questioned how an MP could make such comments about a sitting president:

“No wonder he was told ‘not to be silly’ by Emefa Hardcastle. How can someone of his level say this about a sitting President? Is this how we want our political discourse to go?”

A third user mocked the statement: “Hehehehe… someone should tell him to stop this foolishness. What has the resurrection power of Jesus got to do with this? If they’ve turned into preachers, they should build a cathedral and start preaching!”

Others warned that such comments could damage the NPP’s chances:

“Honourable, that’s a very careless statement. These small communication mistakes will only harm your party. Ghanaians are already against the NPP, and the NDC is doing its part, handling the economy well so far.”
