Afriyie Acquah and Amanda during their marriage

Former Black Stars midfielder Afriyie Acquah has disclosed that his former relationship with his ex-wife, Amanda, once put his national team career at serious risk.

Speaking on Aluta FM, Acquah explained that long before their marriage eventually ended, simply being with her came with pressure, threats, and attempts to push him out of the Black Stars setup.

According to him, the relationship was so difficult to secure that he often found himself in uncomfortable and even dangerous situations.

He revealed that some influential figures strongly opposed his decision to be with her and tried to intimidate him into walking away.

“There were lots of things that happened. I was getting followed by motors and there were threats from big men. I didn’t give up. It even got to a point where I was told I’d be removed from the team if I was still with her. But I told them I loved her and I wouldn’t be swayed by that,” he stated.

Beyond his personal challenges, Acquah enjoyed a respected football career. He featured for the Black Stars at multiple Africa Cup of Nations tournaments and earned praise for his robust, aggressive playing style.

In club football, he built a strong reputation in Serie A, playing for Torino, Parma, Empoli, and others, where his ball-winning ability and energy in midfield made him a trusted figure.

After his marriage to Amanda eventually collapsed, Acquah moved on and has since remarried. He now shares a son with his new wife, embracing a much more peaceful chapter of his life away from the controversies of the past.
