A high school principal has been rushed to hospital after he was allegedly stabbed by a member of staff, triggering an emergency lockdown.

Police and paramedics rushed to Keysborough Secondary College, in Melbourne‘s south-east, about 3pm on Tuesday following reports of a stabbing.

The male staff member was arrested at the scene.

‘Officers quickly arrived on scene and arrested a man and will be interviewed,’ a Victoria Police said in a statement.

The principal was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The staff member is being interviewed by police.

Students told the Herald Sun the school went into lockdown shortly after the end of school bell rang.

One teacher ordered their students to hide under their tables until the lockdown ended.

‘We hid under the tables and didn’t make a sound for 20 minutes,’ a student said.

‘It felt scary … I’m shocked’.

Another student claimed some students, who left the school just moments before the lockdown, saw the alleged attacker holding a knife.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, has footage or any information that could assist police is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
