President John Dramani Mahama has instructed the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs to initiate the processes of upgrading Ho and Hohoe into Metropolitan Assemblies.

He made the announcement during a sod-cuting ceremony for the Oxygen City Housing Project on Wednesday, December 17, 2025.

President Mahama explained that the move forms part of government’s broader efforts to improve decentralisation and promote sustainable urban development.

Mahama promises Alan Kyerematen ‘a very special place’ ahead of AU chair position

“Ho and Hohoe have been identified, there are other districts that are going to be upgraded into a municipal status, and it will be announced in due course. Let me assure you that government remains committed to creating the enabling environment that is necessary for planed, transparent and sustainable urban development”, he noted.

President Mahama further indicated that under the Resetting Ghana Agenda the government will significantly invest in infrastructure.

President Mahama conferred with prestigious chieftaincy title in Nigeria

“As part of the Resetting Agenda, we will deepen reforms in Housing Finance, we will strengthen land administration systems, we will promote credible public-private partnership and we will invest strategically in infrastructure,” he added.
