Veteran Ghanaian highlife musician Mike Kwadwo Gyamfi, popularly known as Sloopy Mike Gyamfi, has revealed that singer Kuami Eugene used one of his songs without first seeking his permission.

Speaking in a recent interview with media personality Nana Romeo Welewele on Peace FM’s Ekwanso Dwoodwoo programme, the highlife legend claimed that Kuami Eugene sampled his classic song titled Asem Kakra.

During the interview, Sloopy Mike Gyamfi laughed as he discussed the matter, stating that the singer delivered a good performance of the song but did not consult him before using it.

“Kuami Eugene took my song. You can find it on YouTube. He did it very well. He sang the song so nicely. The song was Asem Kakra. If you Google the song with Kuami Eugene’s name, you will see it,” he said.

According to the veteran musician, Kuami Eugene performed a version of the song and added some of his own lyrics while maintaining parts of the original composition.

Gyamfi explained that the video of the performance is available on YouTube and shows the Monica hitmaker singing his original song while incorporating new elements.

“In the video, he was singing Asem Kakra. It is not like he used the song entirely. He was singing my Asem Kakra song, but he added his own lyrics to it,” he stated.

Although he expressed admiration for the younger artiste and described him as someone he considers like a son, Sloopy Mike Gyamfi said proper communication should have taken place before the song was used.

He indicated that he would not have objected if Kuami Eugene had approached him first.

“He is like my son, so if he admires what I did and wants to do something with my song, I have no problem with it. But he should have at least consulted me first before doing it,” he added.
