2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) Highlife Artiste of the Year, Fameye, has urged young Ghanaians to shed the notion that highlife music is only for older generations.

Delivering a passionate message during MUSIGA’s Authentic Highlife Night, Fameye expressed concern over the negative perception of the genre among the youth.

“There’s a perception about highlife among young people… like there’s a stigma surrounding it. They feel that if they do highlife, they are old or something,” he said.

Offering a different perspective, Fameye described the genre as vibrant and urged the younger generation not to ignore it.

“But it’s hot. And I love it. So, please, young people, don’t ignore it. Highlife is for Ghana,” he added.

Fameye made the remarks during a celebration of his recognition at the Authentic Highlife Night, hosted by the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) in partnership with the Ghana Tourism Authority, the National Folklore Board, and Charterhouse, at Accra’s +233 Jazz Bar & Grill.

The event honoured him for his TGMA win and celebrated both veteran and contemporary highlife talent.

He received a special plaque from MUSIGA executives in recognition of his emotive style and commitment to promoting the highlife genre.
