    Here’s How to Check Yours and What You Need to Know

    The wait is finally over! The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially announced the release of the provisional results for the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for school candidates.

    If you were among the hundreds of thousands of students who sat for the exams, you can now heave a sigh of relief and take the next step to access your scores. This blog post breaks down everything you need to know—from how to check your results to important updates on sanctions and scams.

    How and Where to Check Your Results

    According to a press statement dated August 23, 2025, WAEC has already sent the results to the various schools through the Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Directors of Education. This means your school is likely to have a copy soon.

    However, for instant access, you can check your results online right now! Simply visit the official WAEC portal at:

    www.waecgh.org

    Navigate to the results checking section, enter the required details (like your examination index number), and your provisional results will be displayed.

    A Look at the Numbers: 2025 BECE by the Digits

    This year’s examination was a massive undertaking, reflecting the growing number of students progressing through Ghana’s education system. The key statistics are:

    Total Candidates: 603,328

    Gender Breakdown: 297,250 males and 306,078 females.

    Number of Schools: 20,395 schools participated nationwide.

    Examination Centers: The exams were held at 2,237 centers across the country.

    Absent Candidates: 2,526 candidates were absent during the exams.

    Inclusive Education: The exam body also made accommodations for 472 candidates with special needs, ensuring a fair testing environment for all.

    Important Notice on Cancelled and Withheld Results

    In its commitment to maintaining integrity, WAEC conducts thorough investigations into examination irregularities. This year, the Council’s Committee has sanctioned several cases of malpractice.

    Here’s a summary of the actions taken:

    Cancelled Results: The entire results of 177 candidates and the subject results of 718 candidates have been cancelled. (Total: 895 cancellations).

    Withheld Results: The entire results of 93 candidates and the subject results of 1,240 candidates have been withheld pending further investigation. (Total: 1,333 withholdings).

    The results from 119 schools have been entirely cancelled, while results from 87 other schools are still under scrutiny. A final decision on all withheld results will be made by September 6, 2025.

    What should you do if your result is withheld or cancelled?

    WAEC has set up a dedicated portal for affected candidates. Visit https://irreg.waec.org to find out the specific reason for the action and the next steps you can take. School heads can also access this information using their official login credentials.

    A Crucial Warning: Beware of Result Fraudsters!

    WAEC has issued a strong warning to all students and the public to be extremely cautious of fraudsters who claim they can “upgrade” results for a fee. These offers are 100% scams.

    WAEC results are secure, tamper-proof, and verifiable. Do not risk your money or your future by dealing with these criminals. The only authentic platform for your results is the official WAEC website.
