Esports is an emerging sporting discipline in Ghana

The President of the Ghana Esports Federation, Igor Boumekpo, has appealed to parents to allow their children to get involved in Esports to help shape their future careers.

According to him, Esports enables children to develop logical thinking skills through gameplay, which can contribute significantly to their education.

He noted that the educational aspect of Esports plays a major role in shaping a child’s future aspirations, whether in engineering, marketing, or other professional fields.

Speaking in an interview with Benjamin Sackey on GhanaWeb TV, Boumekpo assured parents that safety measures are in place to guide and discipline children, so they need not worry.

“I want to appeal to parents to allow their kids to be part of the Esports ecosystem for the future. I think some people want to become pilots, company directors, and more. Through Esports, they can become engineers, journalists, graphic designers, and serious public relations officers.

“It’s a global platform. Whatever we see in traditional sports exists in Esports as well. So parents should allow their children to participate. We can assure them that there are safety protocols in place for the Esports industry. It boosts their confidence and ensures that children can go out and return safely,” he said during the Sports Check interview.

The Ghana Esports Federation is committed to revitalizing the sport in the country and is appealing for support from both the government and corporate institutions.
