After a picture of a personalized bag of rice with his picture placed on a voting paper to entice electors to vote for him went viral, Horace Ekow Ewusi, the Member of Parliament for Cape Coast North, became the subject of controversy. The episode has drawn a lot of criticism, with many people wondering whether it violates electoral standards and the ethics of such campaign practices.

The MP’s face is printed on the rice bag, which is prominently featured in the widely shared social media image. The rice bag is placed close to the ballot paper, suggesting that on election day, voters should connect it to their selection. Netizens have expressed both amusement and displeasure of the image, which has rapidly gone viral.

The unusual political strategy has amused some, but others have expressed worries about its moral and legal ramifications. Critics contend that using food products—especially staples like rice—to sway voters may be interpreted as a kind of manipulation or vote-buying.
