    The 2024 Tourism Report by the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) revealed that Ghana welcomed 1,288,804 international visitors in 2024, representing a

    12% year-on-year increase as the country maintained its status as one of West Africa’s top travel destinations.

    Many visitors visited some of Ghana’s top tourist attractions, from historical landmarks to nature parks.

    According to the Ghana Tourism Authority’s (GTA) 2024 Tourism Report, here are the 10 most visited tourist sites in Ghana and how many people visited each one:

    1. Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park

    Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park which is located in Accra and is the burial place of Ghana’s first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah.

    A total of 333,233 people visited the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park which was the most visited tousirst site in 2024.

    The museum hosts historical artefacts and gives guided tours that teach visitors about Ghana’s journey to independence.

    2. Kakum National Park

    Kakum National Park was the second most visited tourist site in 2024, attracting 183,757 visitors, according to the GTA report.

    Kakum National Park found in the Central Region is famous for its canopy walkway which features seven bridges hanging high in the forest.

    3. Bunso Arboretum

    Bunso Arboretum ranked as the third most visited tourist site in 2024, with a total of 155,149 visitors.

    Just two hours from Accra, this nature park has over 110 bird species, a herb garden, butterflies, and a tree-top walkway.

    4. Kumasi Zoo

    Kumasi Zoo was the fourth most visited tourist site in 2024, recording 133,954 visitors.

    Kumasi Zoo located in the Ashanti Region, this zoo is home to over 40 different animal species.

    5. Cape Coast Castle

    Cape Coast Castle was the fifth most visited tourist site in 2024, with 120,242 people visiting.

    This castle is one of the main sites connected to the trans-Atlantic slave trade.

    It also played a part in the introduction of formal education and Christianity in Ghana.

    6. Manhyia Palace Museum

    Manhyia Palace Museum placed sixth on the list of most visited tourist sites in 2024, drawing 106,100 visitors.

    Manhyia Palace Museum located in Kumasi; this museum tells the story of the Ashanti Kingdom and its kings.

    7. Elmina Castle

    Elmina Castle ranked seventh among the most visited tourist attractions in 2024, welcoming 87,691 visitors.

    Built in 1482 by the Portuguese, Elmina Castle is the oldest European building in Ghana.

    Like Cape Coast Castle, it was also used during the slave trade.

    8. Accra Zoo

    Accra Zoo secured the eighth spot on the list, with 83,953 people visiting the site in 2024.

    Accra Zoo is located in the Achimota Forest, the Zoo is a quiet spot in the city where you can see various animals.

    It’s not far from the Forestry Commission office and is perfect for a short nature visit.

    9. Shai Hills Resource Reserve

    Shai Hills Resource Reserve was the ninth most visited tourist site in 2024, attracting 67,881 visitors.

    This reserve is just outside Accra and has rocky hills, grasslands, and animals like baboons, antelopes, and monkeys.

    It’s a place for hiking, wildlife viewing, and birdwatching.

    10. Aburi Botanical Gardens

    Aburi Botanical Gardens completed the top ten most visited tourist sites in 2024, with a total of 52,330 visitors.

    Aburi Botanical Gardens located in the Eastern Region, this garden is full of tall trees, flowers, and paths.
