    The Black Stars put on a spirited display in their clash with Mali during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers on September 8, 2025, at the Accra Sports Stadium.

    The Black Stars are now on top of their group with 19 points after beating Mali on matchday 8.

    From goalkeeping to attack, the players fought to grind out a result and keep the World Cup qualification dream alive.

    Here are GhanaWeb’s Benjamin Sackey’s player ratings after the game.

    Goalkeeper Benjamin Asare (6/10) once again showed his authority and composure in the box, organizing the defense and making crucial saves to keep a clean sheet.

    In defense, Alexander Djiku (7/10) brought leadership to the area and made vital blocks in and around the penalty box to prevent Mali from scoring a goal. He also scored the only goal to secure Ghana’s victory.

    Jonas Adjetey (6/10) maintained his momentum and composure despite picking a yellow card, displaying his defensive qualities under pressure.

    Mohammed Salisu (6/10), the AS Monaco defender, was solid at the back, making timely tackles to deny the opponents a goal.

    Caleb Yirenkyi (7/10), the right wing-back was a bit shaky in the early stages but grew into the game with his defensive and offensive skills, linking up well with Kudus Mohammed on the flanks.

    Kwasi Sibo (7/10), the Real Oviedo midfielder, showed his footballing prowess, stabilizing the midfield and helping defensively. For his debut game, Sibo’s performance was applauded by many.

    Thomas Partey (6/10) provided the team with control but couldn’t dominate the midfield completely.

    Kudus Mohammed (7/10), the Tottenham Hotspur attacker, displayed his quality with dribbling and creativity that troubled the Mali defense.

    Antoine Semenyo (5/10), the Bournemouth striker, had a tough time in the game, squandering chances that came his way, and was substituted in the second half.

    Jordan Ayew (6/10), the Black Stars captain, once again showed his leadership and quality by holding up play and providing an assist for Djiku’s winning goal with a pinpoint corner.

    The 1-0 win over Mali has placed Ghana in the lead in Group I with 19 points, while Madagascar follows with 16 points.
