President John Dramani Mahama has clarified the correct formal name of Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang.

In a viral video shared on X on November 19, 2025, the President drew attention to what he said was a common mistake in how her name is written.

“Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, and I just want to draw attention. Her name is Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, not Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang. If you want to cut it short, say Naana Jane. But when you write her formal name, it’s Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang. Thank you,” he stated.

The moment President Mahama drops ‘fellow Ghanaians’ after spotting it in his script

Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang is Ghana’s first female Vice President.

She is a distinguished academic, former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast the first woman to hold that position in Ghana and a former Minister of Education from 2013 to 2017.

Before entering frontline politics, she built a decades-long career in academia as a professor of literature and a strong advocate for educational reform, gender empowerment, and equity in access to learning.

She was selected as running mate to John Dramani Mahama in both the 2020 and 2024 elections, and in 2025 became the first woman to ascend to the vice presidency.
