Former Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Richard Attah has described matches against Asante Kotoko as “make-or-break” moments for players, highlighting the high stakes and pressure that accompany Ghana’s biggest football rivalry.

On December 14, 2024, the two clubs will renew their fierce competition in Kumasi in what promises to be another thrilling Super Clash, the first of the 2024/25 season.

Reflecting on the impact of such encounters, Attah admitted the Super Clash has the potential to elevate or tarnish a player’s career.

“Games like this can either change your life or destroy it. However, they don’t bring much pressure if you stay composed. You need to be strong to withstand the intensity that comes with such matches,” he said.

Drawing from his experience at Hearts of Oak, where he enjoyed an unbeaten run against Kotoko in four meetings, Attah stressed the importance of self-confidence.

“During my time at Hearts, we never lost to Kotoko. You have to believe in yourself every time,” he added.

Attah also noted the challenge posed by large crowds, especially for less experienced players.

“Some players get jittery in front of big crowds, but it’s up to them to stay strong and perform on the pitch,” he remarked.

Currently, Hearts sits 6th on the table with 19 points, just one point ahead of Kotoko in 7th, setting the stage for another intense battle.
