Former General Manager of Accra Great Olympics, Eric Alagidede, has cautioned that Accra Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko risk fading into insignificance in Ghana football if they fail to improve their performance and management.

According to Eric Alagidede, most of the traditional clubs who were competing against Hearts and Kotoko are no longer relevant in Ghana football and are competing at the lower levels.

“I’m not going to be a prophet of doom but if we are not careful, clubs like Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko may not be relevant in the next 20 years. There were clubs like them and now are playing in the Division Two League.”

“BA United, Bofoakwa Tano, Ebusua Dwarfs and B.A United are all now competing in the lower leagues,” Eric Alagidede said in an interview with SportyFM as sighted by GhanaWeb Sports.

He further argued that the sharp drop in stadium attendance is largely due to the collapse of several traditional clubs across the country.

“I have done a lot of work on traditional clubs especially when attendance at the stadiums starting going down. I decided to do some works on why the traditional clubs had the numbers and why it is necessary for us to have them back in the league.”

“All these clubs are going down because of factions within the clubs and internal politics. The same thing is going on in Kotoko where elements within the club rise against the people in charge because they don’t like them.”
