Black Stars coach Otto Addo appears to be impressed with Hearts of Oak goalkeeper, Benjamin Asare, hinting that the shot-stopper could start against Chad on Friday, March 21, 2025.
He praised Asare’s quality, noting that the former Great Olympics goalkeeper has shown a high level at training and thus deserved his call-up.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, the German-trained coach said he had not yet decided who would start in goal, noting that the technical team would make a final decision after their last training session.
“Benjamin Asare has done well; otherwise, we wouldn’t have called him. He has performed well in training, just like the others. We will make the decision after training, so let’s see what happens,” Addo stated.
Explaining Asare’s inclusion in the squad, Addo emphasized that performance remains the key metric for his selections.
“With me, it’s always about performance. It doesn’t matter which position, it’s always performance that counts.
“I listen and hear many opinions, but in the end, I make the decision together with Fatau [Dauda, the goalkeepers’ trainer].”
Benjamin Asare is one of three debutants in the squad and among three locally-based players.
The Hearts of Oak goalkeeper has been in sensational form this season, keeping 12 clean sheets—more than any other goalkeeper—and conceding just one goal in his last seven games across all competitions.
