Member of Asante Kotoko’s Communications Team, Seth Nii Darko has recounted the dramatic events that led to the tragic stabbing and death of staunch Kotoko fan Yaw Frimpong, popularly known as Pooley.

Darko revealed that, at one point during the chaos, Pooley was even made to apologize to the fans.

Pooley met his untimely death on Sunday, February 2, 2025, after being stabbed during a violent clash at Asante Kotoko’s game against Nsoatreman at the Nana Konamansah Park in Nsoatre.

In an interview with Kessben FM, Darko detailed what transpired, revealing that Pooley had been forced to apologize after allegedly insulting Ignatius Baffour Awuah, the chairman of Nsoatreman.

“They started coming at us after he [Ignatius Baffour Awuah] signalled his fans to attack. They claimed Pooley had insulted their chairman and were demanding he be handed over to them. We asked Pooley to apologize, and he knelt down and apologized to Ignatius,” Darko recounted.

“We then tried to get Pooley out of the scene, but within two minutes, we heard that he had been stabbed. When we got there, we found him on the ground, bleeding.”

In response to the tragic incident, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) have suspended the use of Nana Konamansah Park by Nsoatreman and has also halted the league while investigations are underway.

Additionally, the GFA have dispatched Executive Council Member Fred Achee to Kumasi to offer condolences to Pooley’s family.
