Black Stars attacker, Mohammed Kudus

Scores of Ghanaians have taken to social media to express their opinions on Black Stars forward Mohammed Kudus being left out of the 2024 Confederation of African Football (CAF) awards.

Some individuals argued that CAF’s decision not to nominate Kudus for the ‘Player of the Year’ award is justified, citing his underwhelming performance during the year in question.

Others pointed out that Ghana’s failure to advance past the group stages of the 2024 African Cup of Nations and Kudus’s lack of impact disqualifies him from receiving such a prestigious nomination.

Kudus was not the only notable player omitted from the nomination list; top talents like Egypt’s Mohammed Salah, Senegal’s Nicholas Jackson, and Morocco’s Brahim Diaz also failed to make the final cut.

Meanwhile, Nigerian attacker Ademola Lookman is considered the favorite to win the award after leading his national team to the finals of the 2024 AFCON, securing the UEFA Europa League title with Atalanta, and scoring a hat-trick in the final.

Kudus on the other hand, has faced criticism for his poor performances for the Black Stars, having failed to register a goal or assist in two matches against Sudan during the 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.
