A woman’s body has been found in a creek at a popular tourist destination, the fourth grim discovery in waters on the Gold Coast in less than a week.

Police were called to Currumbin Creek near Whitsunday Drive about 2.50pm on Wednesday following the grim discovery by a shocked resident.

The local told their neighbours that the woman appeared to be Asian and was wearing a child-sized life vest tied at the front with rope.

‘It didn’t look like a normal life vest,’ a local told the Gold Coast Bulletin.

A backpack was also found nearby.

It’s understood the fully clothed body may have been in the water for several days before police divers were able to retrieve it.

Detectives have launched an investigation and door-knocked residents.

Police say it will take some time to identify the woman and determine cause of death.

Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers.

Currumbin Creek is a popular swimming spot on the Gold Coast.

The woman was discovered 24 hours after a man was found dead on the rocks at Echo Beach in Tallebudgera, less than 10km away, on Saturday morning.

Police believe the man may have suffered a medical episode by the water’s edge.

A 31-year-old man was also found dead in a Varsity Lakes unit complex pool on Sunday morning.

These deaths are all unrelated and are not being treated as suspicious by police.

Superintendent Brett Jackson said it was a traumatic weekend for passersby on the popular beaches to see the bodies.

‘It was a sombre weekend for many,’ he told reporters on Monday.
