Devin Haney outclassed WBO Welterweight champion Brian Norman Jr. over 12 lackluster rounds to take the title. Haney surprisingly dropped the champ in the second round after staggering him first and then following up with a nice left – right combination.
It looked as if Haney was trying for the stoppage as he pounced on Norman Jr. But couldn’t turn the trick. He continued to dominate to the midway point of the fight and then seemed to take his foot off the gas for the majority of the remainder of the fight. For his part, Norman Jr could not land the highlight reel knockout punch that many people were expecting. The scores were as follows: 114-113, 117-110, 116-111, all for the new champ.
