Musician and SRC President of the University of Ghana (UG), Guru, has spoken about what he described as attempts to sabotage a major event during his time in office.

In a charged TikTok Live session, he detailed how fellow students allegedly worked behind the scenes to derail the SRC Artistes’ Night he had organized.

Guru claimed that he used his industry connections to secure performances from musicians who agreed to appear free of charge.

However, he alleged that some individuals contacted those same artistes and spread damaging misinformation.

“I had struggled to bring artistes to come perform for free. These same people went to inform the artistes that I was lying, that I had collected money for artistes and I was swindling them,” Guru explained.

He further alleged that the individuals also targeted the event’s organizer, pressuring them to withdraw support.

“Some people went behind my back to inform the event organizer to pull out, telling him he will run at a loss if he invests in it,” he recounted.

The most galling part for Guru was the aftermath. He claimed the same critics who sabotaged the event were the first to label it a failure.

“After the event, they were the ones claiming that the SRC week had flopped. That the setup wasn’t quality and I couldn’t bring A-list artistes on board,” he said.

Guru defended the event’s scale, revealing that the budget for the entire event was insufficient to organise a proper event.

“Meanwhile, we were given only ₵200,000 for the whole week! And they wanted a quality event with that??” he questioned, visibly frustrated.

He challenged critics to understand the high costs of major events, asking, “How much would one A-list artiste like Sarkodie or Black Sherif take?” and pointing to the production budgets of major concerts like Tidal Rave or Rapperholic.

The University of Ghana’s 67th UGSRC Week, held from August 10 to 16, 2025, was a student-focused event featuring a variety of activities.

The week began with a gospel rock show and climaxed with an artiste night featuring Ghanaian musician Sarkodie.

The celebration, organized by the Guru-led UGSRC administration, also included student-centric events such as cooking contests, cultural showcases, and talent shows.

The week served as a final celebratory event for the outgoing administration and brought students together for a week of diverse programs.
