This family of seven gets £1,900 a month in welfare – and could get a £10,000 a year more if the two-child cap is lifted… so how should we balance their needs with the rights of hard working taxpayers?

Renowned dancehall artiste Samini has broken his silence following the backlash he received on social media after a photo of him with Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) Abeiku Santana surfaced.

Appearing on George Quaye’s show on Joy Prime TV, Samini clarified the nature of his visit, stating that he was just paying a

courtesy visit and to introduce an upcoming tourism project to the GTA.

“I went there to pay a courtesy call to Abeiku Santana. I did the same to KOD, and I tried to see Rex Omar, but he wasn’t there, so I sent him a message.

“So when I visited, I introduced what I was working on to Aibeku,” he said.

Samini also responded to the development, expressing concern that pressure from party foot soldiers and their criticisms had influenced the GTA’s decision to take down the photo he took with its executives.

“They took the post down. Later, they said it had gone out prematurely, as they needed approval from the main office before officially associating with me,” he said.

Samini blamed “foot soldiers” for misunderstanding the post and claiming that Abeiku Santana invited him for a treat.

He warned against politicising the GTA, stating that “That office that Abieku is sitting in is not a party office. And so if Ghana Tourism Authority as a platform is there, then every Ghanaian related to tourism should feel free to walk to that office and do tourism-related business with them.”
