The Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey, has expressed excitement over the international exposure Ghana’s “Detty December” celebrations have received after being featured on CGTN, one of Asia’s leading global news networks with an audience of more than 159 million followers worldwide.

Abeiku Santa described the feature as a major boost to Ghana’s tourism brand, noting that it reflects growing global interest in the country’s vibrant culture, entertainment and festive experiences.

In a Facebook post after the broadcast, he said it was an honour to share Ghana’s tourism story on such a prominent international platform, highlighting the deliberate efforts by the government of President John Dramani Mahama to position Ghana as Africa’s preferred December destination and a year-round tourism hub.

According to him, the success of “Detty December” is the result of strong collaboration between the government and the private sector, with strategic investments in tourism, culture, entertainment and curated experiences under the broader Black Star Experience initiative.

“This is what strategic storytelling, collaboration and belief in the Black Star Experience looks like,” he noted, adding that Ghana is steadily strengthening its reputation as a welcoming destination that offers world-class festivals, nightlife, heritage tourism and hospitality.

Mr Abeiku Santa stressed that international visibility on platforms such as CGTN is crucial in attracting new markets, particularly from Asia, and reinforces Ghana’s ambition to welcome visitors from across the globe.

He concluded that the feature affirms Ghana’s readiness to host the world, not only during the festive season, but throughout the year, as the country continues to expand and diversify its tourism offerings.
