The Generational Right Protection Society (GRPS), led by media personality Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah, has staged a protest to demand urgent action from the John Dramani Mahama led government on illegal mining activities, popularly known as galamsey.

Dressed in red and black, the protestors carried placards with inscriptions such as, “Blood Gold Greed!” and “Stop Galamsey Now,”.

They gathered at the Obra Spot at Circle to commence their march, which is set to end at the Jubilee House.

The protest, aimed at drawing national attention to the devastating impact illegal mining activities have had on the environment, forests, water bodies, and local communities, began on Monday, April 28, 2025, and is expected to continue until Wednesday, April 30, 2025.
