Glen Boateng, founder of the creative collective Ground Up have filed a writ of summons at the High Court in Accra against Ghanaian rapper Kwesi Arthur.

In a writ of summons dated January 27, 2026, Kwesi Arthur is accused of libel, with the founder of the creative collective and Ground Up Chale seeking more than GH¢10 million in damages over comments the rapper made in a social media post.

According to documents, Glen and Ground Up are seeking a declaration that several statements made by the musician on social media on January 21, 2026, are defamatory.

The posts in question alleged financial exploitation, ownership disputes, lack of earnings, and threats related to Arthur’s music career.

The plaintiffs argue claims that Ground Up “owns” the artiste and allegedly prevented him from releasing music amounted to libel and caused reputational and economic harm.

Glen Boateng and Ground Up are asking the court to compel Kwesi Arthur to permanently delete the social media posts and to restrain him from publishing further allegations.

They are also requesting that Kwesi Arthur issue an unqualified retraction and apology, to be approved by the plaintiffs and given the same visibility as the original posts.

The suit further demands GH₵5 million in general damages for libel, GH₵2 million in special damages for alleged economic losses and missed business opportunities, and GH₵3 million in aggravated and exemplary damages. They are also seeking costs, including legal fees.

    Background

The lawsuit stems from rapper Kwesi Arthur’s January 21, 2026 post on social media.

In the said post Kwesi Arthur alleged that Glen and Ground Up asked him to pay $150,000 for using images of himself in an independent project and alleged that Ground Up Chale “claims to own me, my image, my music, and everything attached to it from 2016 to this day.”

The rapper also noted that Glen should be held responsible in case anything happens to him.
