Preparations are complete, and things are moving in the right direction: Granit Shala has successfully finished his intensive sparring phase. In the remaining days leading up to his fight against Petar Milas on Saturday, his training schedule will consist solely of light sessions, recovery, and final fine-tuning. The focus is now clearly on mental freshness and precision.
Coach Agron Kurtisi draws a thoroughly positive conclusion from the past few weeks: “The sparring phase went very well. We were fortunate to have absolutely top-notch sparring partners at the gym. Granit fought some very tough rounds, remained injury-free, highly motivated, and hungry. He can hardly wait to finally step into the ring on Saturday. A little bit of nervousness is always part of the process, but I’m convinced we’ll master the fight.”
Shala himself is also more confident and focused than ever before: “We’ve done an extremely high number of sparring sessions in the last three weeks. For me, it’s been the best sparring phase of my career so far. I’ve never been as physically fit as I am now. There are no excuses for Saturday – I’m ready.”
Promoter Ingo Volckmann emphasizes the importance of the duel, both from a sporting and emotional perspective: “Granit has steadily improved since his defeat in the European Championship fight and has made a strong comeback. He has trained even harder since then and is currently in the best shape of his career. This fight is extremely important for him and for AGON. Naturally, the bar is set high in front of such a crowd. The crucial thing now is that he remains mentally stable – physically, he is in outstanding condition. Granit is ready to show on Saturday that he belongs among the greats.”
Starting Wednesday, Shala will set up camp in Oberhausen and kick off the official Fight Week. The following events are scheduled around the big event at the Rudolf Weber Arena, where Agit Kabayel will headline the fight:
Wednesday, January 7th: Open Workout – Starts at 6:00 PM
Thursday, January 8: Press conference – starting at 2:00 p.m.
Friday, January 9: Ceremonial Weigh-In – Starts at 6:00 PM
Saturday, January 10: Fight against Petar Milas (co-main event)
The preparations are complete, the tension is rising. Now only the moment when the gong sounds and Granit Shala wants to confirm his hard work in the ring matters.
