The government has disclosed that it will support the burial and funeral arrangements of the six young women who lost their lives during the tragic stampede at El-Wak Stadium.

The Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, made this known during a visit to one of the bereaved families at Eyan Maim in the Central Region on Friday, November 14, 2025.

She emphasised that the state will ensure each victim receives a dignified burial, befitting their aspirations to serve Ghana.

“Those who require a befitting burial, he (President Mahama) will, together with the support of the family, ensure they receive one,” she assured. “For those who are also recovering… the government is bearing all costs until they fully recover.”

The stampede occurred when hundreds of applicants rushed through entry points for documentation and body selection, overwhelming security arrangements and breaching protocols.

A preliminary Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) report attributed the incident to a premature surge at the gates.
