Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has announced that the government will bear the cost of burying the victims of the Volta Lake boat disaster, which claimed 15 lives.

According to a report by 3news.com, she made this known on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, when she led a government delegation to commiserate with the bereaved families.

“Government will bear the cost of burial of the victims, and we will provide rapid support for the survivors. We stand with you in this moment of grief,” Professor Opoku-Agyemang stated.

On Sunday, October 12, 2025, the Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA) confirmed a fatal boat accident on the Volta Lake near Kete Krachi.

A statement released by the GMA said the small boat, which was carrying passengers returning from a funeral at Okuma to Bovime in the Krachi West District of the Oti Region, capsised midway through the journey.
