Since the ruling New Patriotic Party lost the December 7 General Election, the Government has not issued a single financial clearance to any ministry, department, or agency (MDA) to make new payments or recruit personnel.

Fatimatu Abubakar, the Spokesperson for the Government Transition Team, said all the “last-minute payments and recruitment” raised by the incoming government did not exist and that the processes for payments and recruitment started months earlier.

She said the government had shown goodwill towards the incoming administration for a smooth transfer of power and urged both sides of the Transition Team to be professional in their actions and utterances.

Madam Abubakar, also the Minister of Information, in a media interview in Accra on Thursday, said the recruitment of nurses and allied health personnel, for which the portal opened long before the nation went to the polls, and tax waivers for One-District, One-Factory companies had long been laid before Parliament.

The recruitment of security personnel started at the beginning of the year, while the processes for purchasing 65-foot naval ships began three years ago, she added.

Madam Abubakar said the Government had complied with the provisions in the Transition Act while the Co-chairs of the Joint Team had conducted the business of the transition process fairly.

She called on Mr. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Spokesperson for the incoming administration, to be measured in his public pronouncements in order not to raise “unnecessary tensions.”
