Ernest Henry Norgbey, Chairman of Parliament’s Select Committee on Sports, has disclosed that the government has set aside GH¢150 million to support the Black Stars’ build-up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Ghana will be making its fifth appearance at the global showpiece and has been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia.

The tournament will be hosted across the United States, Canada and Mexico.

In an interview with Citi Sports on Friday, February 20, 2026, Norgbey, who is also the Member of Parliament for Ashaiman, explained that the allocation is aimed at ensuring the national team is adequately prepared for the competition.

“Well, when you talk of funding, the government has allocated about GH¢150 million for the preparation as we speak now,” he said.

He added that although FIFA will provide financial backing for participating nations, those funds are not expected to arrive in time to cover the early stages of preparation.

“But we still need funding because, yes, we know that FIFA will be giving us some amount of money, but that amount of money will not come before even the preparation,” he added.

Details of how the money will be spent are yet to be outlined.

However, the Black Stars are scheduled to play Germany and Austria during the next international window as part of their preparations.

Ghana will kick off their World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17, 2026, face England on June 23, and wrap up the group stage against Croatia on June 27, 2026.
