The Acting Manager Director of the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC), Sammy Gyamfi, has stated that the GoldBod is coming to end illegal mining.

This, he said, forms part of the entity’s quest to buy and sell gold to deal with the recurrent ravages from the effects of illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, in the country.

His comment comes im reaction to a press conference held by the Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, during which he claimed that the Golbod was rather going to enhance the activities of illegal mining in the country.

But, according to Sammy Gyamfi, the work of the Goldbod is rather to streamline work of the sector and eliminate the activities of such unauthorised miners.

“Goldbod is coming to end illegal mining as our work of buying and selling gold will deal with illegal small-scale miners.

“This will force out the illegal miners as their activities will no longer be recognised, while they will be dealt with when they attempt to smuggle gold,” he told journalists at Parliament on Friday, March 28, 2025.

Earlier, Sammy Gyamfi had indicated his strong conviction that the Golbod bill currently before Parliament will be passed before the House rises.

Both sides of the House have so far expressed great enthusiasm about the bill, with the Minority making few suggestions aimed at enhancing the bill.
