Ghanaian gospel musician and Reverend Minister, Sonnie Badu, has urged citizens to avoid getting involved in any form of violence, especially in light of recent calls from politicians to engage in acts of aggression.

Sonnie Badu emphasised that politicians who incite violence should be left to face the consequences of their actions alone.

He warned Ghanaians to stay smart and avoid being drawn into violent acts, which could result in spending the Christmas period behind bars.

His comments were made in reaction to a recent statement by the NPP’s 3rd Vice Chairman, Alhaji Masaudu, who issued a stern warning to supporters of the NDC.

Alhaji Masaudu, in a message intended to caution NDC supporters, particularly those protesting the parliamentary results at various coalition centres and destroying state resources in other areas, said:

“The men in NPP, come out. As vice chairman in charge of operations at the headquarters, I will not stand by and will not allow my people to be intimidated. Come out from all the regions and seek revenge from tomorrow to Friday. Anyone with a gun, bring it out.

“We will not allow Basintale to instill fear and panic in our people. I am telling you, I will end by telling Ghanaians that you all know how much NPP loves peace. That is why we conceded defeat earlier. But it seems that the NDC does not appreciate our effort. If they don’t, we will show them that we are more hooligans than them.”

Responding to this call for violence, Sonnie Badu disagreed strongly.

He stated, “Someone said people should come out, but no, they should go out alone and face the consequences themselves. If you’re thinking of going out, be smart. You might end up spending Christmas in a cell as power transitions.”

Sonnie Badu further appealed to Ghanaians to enjoy the festive season peacefully with their families, adding, “Please enjoy your Christmas peacefully with your family. Ghana, let’s say NO to gun violence!

He added, “I saw our incoming President, @officialjdmahama, and outgoing President, @nakufoaddo, laughing and smiling together. So, what’s going on here?.”

    Background

The political unrest follows the re-coalition of some parliamentary election results and the ongoing transition process.

Some NDC supporters have reportedly occupied collation centres across the country, demanding prompt and accurate declarations of the parliamentary results.

There have also been invasions at various state institutions, including the office of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) in Ayawaso East Municipality and the Metro Mass Transport Limited yard in Kaneshie, Accra.

The leadership of the newly elected National Democratic Congress government has since called for order.

Meanwhile, some members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), including actor Prince David Osei, have condemned the developments.

He questioned why the NPP has remained silent, asserting that the party is not afraid to defend itself against these actions.
