Political scientist and lecturer, Dr Richard Amoako Baah, has jabbed the New Patriotic Party (NPP) over the nationwide “Thank You Tour” which was launched at the NPP headquarters on April 23, 2025.

In an interview with JoyNews on April 23, 2025, he questioned the relevance of the event, given the magnitude of the party’s defeat in the 2024 Election.

In his estimation, the party performed poorly both in presidential and parliamentary elections and should be diagnosing the root cause of the party’s performance instead of embarking on a “Thank You Tour”.

“What is going on is not good. When you lose this colossally, you don’t go on a Thank You Tour. No, thank you for what? For not voting for me?

“Instead, you say, ‘Sorry, forgive me.’ That’s what you do in this instance — and it’s not just for the flagbearer; all the party people should be doing that,” Dr Amoako Baah said.

His reaction follows the NPP official launch of a “Thank You Tour” at the party’s national headquarters in Accra.

The tour, scheduled to kick off on Saturday, April 26, will see the party leadership tour all 16 regions of the country to appreciate its grassroot members and party faithful for their support.

The turnout of the 2024 Election saw Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the 2024 Flagbearer of the NPP, lose to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer and now-President, John Dramani Mahama, in a landslide victory.

The NPP also lost several key parliamentary seats, reducing its influence in the Parliament substantially.

It is in light of this that Dr Amoako Baah, a member and critic of the NPP, has urged the party to undertake serious introspections and reforms following its electoral setbacks.
