‘GMX streaming platform is dead on arrival’

Artist manager Lawrence Asiamah Hanson, popularly known as Bullgod, stated that the Ghana Music Streaming (GMX) App, officially launched by Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, is destined to fail.

During a discussion on Hitz FM on November 2, 2024, Bullgod emphasised that the government’s decision to introduce a new music streaming app lacked proper planning and would not last long.

“The whole project seems experimental. I doubt it will survive four months in this country. It is dead on arrival. It doesn’t even resemble a typical streaming app. The GMX app sounds more like an event we need to host for Ghana,” he expressed.

Bullgod also mentioned that Ghanaians would likely prefer using other established streaming platforms like Boomplay and Spotify over the GMX App.

“When you mention Spotify, iTunes, and others, they have a catchy appeal. However, the GMX App sounds more like an event we should organise for Ghana on the 6th of March, where people from all over the world can come and experience our music.”

He further questioned how creatives would be encouraged to upload their music to the app and how they would benefit from it, raising concerns about the app’s sustainability.

    Background:

On Wednesday, October 30, 2024, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia officially launched the GMX App.

The GMX App aims to promote Ghanaian music locally and internationally while ensuring fair compensation for all stakeholders in the music industry.
