Glastonbury Festival has revealed the line-up for this year’s event as it announced the headline acts which include The 1975, Neil Young and Olivia Rodrigo.

This year’s festival will feature two first time headliners, British pop-rock group the 1975 and the US pop-punk songwriter Olivia Rodrigo.

Moments after the acts were announced, festival goers who had already purchased their tickets took to social media in their droves to complain about the line-up.

Branding it the ‘worst one ever’, they claimed that the globally recognised event had ‘gone so far downhill’ in comparison to previous years.

Fans of the festival who didn’t manage to bag entry during the November sale admitted they no longer minded about missing out following the announcement.

The poster was shared by the official Glastonbury X page on Thursday morning alongside the caption: ‘Here is the first Glastonbury Festival 2025 line-up poster.’

Confirming that there would me more acts to follow, it added: ‘Many more acts and attractions still to be announced.’

The Matty Healy led band have been revealed as the top billing for the Friday night on the Pyramid Stage at Worthy Farm.

Pop princess Olivia, who performed on the Other Stage in 2022, will serve as the headline act on the closing night of the event.

Canadian singer-songwriter Neil will fill the Saturday night slot, which will also see performances from Charli XCX, Raye and Doechii.

Neil previously accidentally announced he would be playing at the event on January 1 when he declared he would be ‘withdrawing’ from the festival – despite it never being confirmed in the first place.

He cited that it was due to the fact the event was under broadcast partner the BBC‘s ‘corporate control’. The Somerset based festival has worked closely with the BBC – its exclusive broadcast partner – since 1997.

Neil later admitted had received bad information and confirmed he would once again perform, announcing it was ‘back on his intinerary’.

Sir Rod Stewart was already confirmed for the coveted teatime legends slot on the Sunday.

Rod, who turned 80 in January, said he was ‘more than able to pleasure and titillate’ at his age.

The Other stage headliners have also been revealed. After her unforgettable Brat Summer – and rivalling Dua Lipa’s headline performance with a DJ set at Glastonbury 2024 – Charli xcx will headline the festival’s second stage on Saturday.

Hot off her BRITs success where she bagged a jaw-dropping five gongs, Charli is no doubt likely to draw a huge crowd.

Also on the same stage will be hip hop star Loyle Carner on the Friday, as Essex electronic group The Prodigy close the festival there on Sunday night with a show that will be their first at the festival since the death of frontman Keith Flint in 2019.

Other acts include Scottish rock band Biffy Clyro, Canadian singer Alanis Morissette, US chart-topper Noah Kahan, English rock band Wolf Alice, British indie rockers Wet Leg and recently reformed US pop group Scissor Sisters.

Manchester-formed The 1975 have headlined various festivals in the UK and elsewhere, with controversial stage antics. However, they have not headlined at Glastonbury.

Last month the band was found not liable after a Malaysian festival was closed because Healy kissed a male bandmate on stage.

They had been sued in the High Court by the organisers of the Good Vibes Festival, Future Sound Asia (FSA), after they were forced to shut the event early by authorities in Malaysia, where homosexuality is a crime, because of the kiss.

Olivia played a string of arena shows in the UK, Asia, the US and Australia last year as part of her tour for her chart-topping Guts album.

The Disney star, 22, who is known for songs including Driver’s Licence, Vampire and Good 4 U, toured with her debut album Sour in 2022, with dates at The O2’s London arena and Madison Square Garden in New York.

Following the line-up announcement, many took to X to share their thoughts on the musicians who are slated to play at the iconic event.

While many were angry over the lacklustre list of acts, others insisted it was ‘perfection’ and claimed they didn’t know what people were complaining about.

    Those who were less than impressed with the billing, said: ‘But you’ve still got the headliners to announce right?’ ‘That disappointing moment of not getting tickets is forgetten in an instant’; ‘This is the worst line-up in the history of Glastonbury, it’s gone so far downhill there’s no going back up! Total disappointment’; ‘That’s lacking quality’;’Worst line-up ever’;

Glastonbury is taking a fallow year in 2026 to allow the farmland to recover, organisers said last year.

In 2024, London-born singer Dua Lipa, rock band Coldplay and American singer Sza all headlined the Pyramid Stage.

Appetite for the esteemed festival saw standard tickets sell out in 35 minutes in November.

They cost £373.50 plus a £5 booking fee, up £18.50 from the price from the 2024 festival, and were sold exclusively through the See Tickets website.

The date for the resale – where tickets not fully paid for are put back up for purchase – is set for some time in spring.

On Wednesday evening, the internet was awash with claims from fans about when the initial names for the festival would be revealed.

Fans – correctly – guessed that the reveal was just hours away, following a string of rumours about who will be headlining the famous Pyramid Stage.

Olivia and 1975 had been hotly-tipped to appear, while artists such as Sam Fender, Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan have all been mentioned but not yet confirmed.

A rumour circulated online that the official lineup poster would be unveiled on Thursday (March 6) at 8am.

One fan posted on X: ‘Glastonbury line-up rumoured to be coming out 8am tomorrow morning I am NOT gonna get any sleep tonight.’

Fake posters, featuring the same date and time, as well as a BBC watermark, also been circulated on Reddit, but fans were quick to notice they were filled with spelling errors.

One user, claiming to have inside knowledge, addressed the rumours, writing: ‘Nothing confirmed but I’ve been told by someone who is likely to know, so I’d be surprised if they’re wrong.’

A Glastonbury source suggested there may still be another surprise appearance from a ‘major, major band’ to be announced, but said this would not impact the main stage headliners.

‘Everyone is pretty pleased with this year’s line-up now,’ the source said.

‘At one stage, with Neil Young and Rod Stewart’s names already out there, some people were concerned that this year’s festival was going to be defined as the year of the wrinkly rockers.

‘Both The 1975 and Olivia Rodrigo are massive names who appeal to a much younger audience, so the hope is that Glastonbury will appeal to the youngsters this year as well as those who might want to see Neil or Rod.’

The festival will take place at Worthy Farm in Somerset from June 25 to 29.
