Ghanaian preacher and gospel musician, Sonnie Badu, has thrown his support behind the local players in the Black Stars squad.

In a Facebook post shared on November 16, 2024, Sonnie indicated that if the Ghana Football Association (GFA) provides the local players with the right equipment, they would outperform foreign-based players.

“This is evidence that if local players are given the right tools and opportunities and treated the same as the European boys, they can handle the national team easily,” he said.

Sonnie Badu added that if GFA gives the local players the same opportunities, it would also breed healthy competitions among them.

He emphasised that with this, then foreign-based players would have to justify themselves before they can be added to the squad.

“The advantage is that they will bond and blend together. This will create competition and let the Europeans dig for the jersey. We have the World Cup qualification to focus on, and I hope the boys will bring smiles to our faces,” he added.

His comments come on the back of the recent Black Stars game with Angola where Coach Otoo Addo decided to play Abdul Manaf Nurudeen in poll over Wollacott and Lawrence Ati Zigi.

The Black Stars game against Angola in the AFCON 2025 qualifiers on November 15, 2024, ended in a 1-1 draw, bringing Ghana’s hopes of featuring in the continental tournament to an end.

The Black Stars will, however, play their final game against Niger on November 18, 2024, at the Accra sports stadium.
