Convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell almost never showers behind bars and reeks of body odor, a former cellmate said.
Maxwell, 64, allegedly stinks of ‘armpits’ and had ‘horrible personal hygiene,’ the unnamed ex–inmate told TMZ.
The woman was incarcerated with Maxwell from 2023 to 2025 at the all–female FCI Tallahassee in Florida and had regular contact with her, according to the outlet.
Maxwell is currently serving a 20–year federal prison sentence after being convicted of child sex trafficking, as well as related charges for conspiring with Jeffrey Epstein to sexually abuse minors.
Her former cellmate claimed Maxwell ‘would shower once or twice a week,’ even though inmates had easy access to the showers.
Maxwell ‘always had BO’ since she would work out constantly and almost never wash herself after, she added.
The inmate said Epstein’s longtime girlfriend would always jog around to get to where she was going.
Other prisoners shunned Maxwell and labeled her as a ‘chomo’ – a slang term for child molester.

However, no one ever laid their hands on Maxwell at the low–security facility despite her reputation.
Her former inmate explained that no one wanted to get sent to the special housing unit known as ‘the hole.’
Those in the hole could be confined for months and locked in 24 hours a day while only being served cold meals.
‘It’s just not worth it,’ she said, calling it ‘very hard living.’
Maxwell was transferred out of the Florida prison in August and moved to Federal Prison Camp Bryan in Texas, a more relaxed facility typically used for non–violent, white–collar criminals.
The transfer came shortly after she met twice with US Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche to discuss her crimes and relationship with Epstein.
A whistleblower from FPC Bryan, later identified as nurse Noella Turnage, told the House Judiciary Committee that Maxwell was enjoying a much cushier life after being moved to the lower-security prison.
Prison staff were allegedly waiting ‘hand and foot’ for the disgraced socialite and lavishing her with special treatment.

Among the perks that Maxwell has been receiving since her move include ‘customized’ meals that were then ‘personally delivered to her in her cell by longtime federal employees,’ according to the whistleblower.
She was allegedly allowed to use recreation areas after hours, and her visitors were provided with a ‘special cordoned off area’ and ‘snacks and refreshments.’
Her visitors were allowed to bring in computers, which created the risk of her carrying out ‘unmonitored communications with the outside world’, the whistleblower said.
On occasion, Maxwell was even allowed access to a puppy in her cell, ‘even though neither inmates nor staff are ordinarily allowed to pet the service dogs in training.’
Democrat Jamie Raskin said the whistleblower also provided Maxwell’s email correspondence, which showed she told friends she was far more comfortable in her new facility.
‘Bryan is a different beast in every possible respect to Tal,’ Maxwell wrote. ‘It is a well managed well run institution with an execellent [sic] Warden who leads from the top.’
Maxwell said the prison was ‘run in an orderly fashion which makes for a safer more comfortable environment for all people.’
‘In other words I feel like I have dropped through Alice in Wonderlands looking glass,’ she added. ‘I am much much happier here and more importantly safe.’

The whistleblower claimed that Maxwell was ‘personally escorted’ after hours by prison guards so that she could work out by herself.
Maxwell was also allegedly allowed to shower late at night when other inmates were already in bed, the Judiciary Committee said.
Inmates were allegedly threatened with retaliation if they spoke to the media about the convicted sex offender.
In September, Maxwell was photographed going to a yoga class at the prison in a gray jogger set and black Nike trainers.
Her attorney, David Oscar Markus, has said that the prison transfer was made for Maxwell’s safety.
‘I’m surprised to hear my progressive friends criticizing more humane prisons and Ghislaine’s transfer to a safer facility, especially after she faced serious danger in Tallahassee,’ Markus said on X.
He added: ‘The outrage machine wants to turn a safer placement into a scandal. But it’s still prison. And despite the soundbites, prison is a truly awful place.’
The Daily Mail has reached out to Maxwell’s attorneys – Markus, Leah Saffian and Melissa Madrigal – for comment.
