GhanaWeb recently announced the nominees for the 2025 Edition of its annual GhanaWeb Excellence Awards.

These nominees have been categorised into more than 20 categories.

And as a way of bringing readers up to speed on who has been nominated, here are brief profiles of some of them.

All of the following have been nominated under the Visual Arts category.

Bright Yaw Hodzor

Bright Yaw Hodzor, popularly known as “The Celebrity Painter,” is a renowned Ghanaian creative entrepreneur and the Founder/CEO of Kaprisky Creations Ghana, based in Madina New Road, Accra. With over 15 years of experience in the creative industry, he specialises in high-end interior and exterior painting, mural artistry, and innovative decorative designs that transform residential, commercial, and public spaces.

Over the years, he has executed notable projects for institutions such as Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), Action Chapel International, the Ghana Library Authority, International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), the Evangelical Presbyterian Church (Madina), and Kaneshie Market, earning him a reputation for excellence and professionalism in Ghana’s creative space.

Originally from Leklebi Duga in the Volta Region and an alumnus of Kinbu Senior High Technical School, Bright’s journey is one of resilience and determination. Rising from a period of homelessness, he built a successful brand through hard work, skill mastery, and a strong entrepreneurial vision.

Beyond his business success, Bright Yaw Hodzor is passionate about youth empowerment. He has trained over 135 young people in professional painting and finishing skills, actively promoting vocational excellence and advocating for the monetisation of creative talents.

In recognition of his outstanding impact in the creative industry, Bright Yaw Hodzor has been nominated for the GhanaWeb Excellence Awards in the Visual Arts Category, celebrating his craftsmanship, entrepreneurial spirit, and commitment to transforming spaces and lives across Accra.

Zohra Opoku

Zohra Opoku (born 1976) is a German-born Ghanaian textile artist and photographer known for her multidisciplinary practice that blends textiles, photography, installation, performance, and video. Born in Altdöbern, Germany, she currently lives and works in Accra, Ghana.

Her artistic work uniquely integrates textile patterns into photographed portraits, using fabric not only as material but also as a narrative tool to explore identity, memory, migration, and cultural heritage.

Through layered compositions and immersive installations, she examines

personal and collective histories, often reflecting on themes of belonging and diaspora.

Zohra Opoku’s practice spans textile design, large-scale installations, performative works, photography, and video art, positioning her as a significant contemporary voice in both African and European art spaces. In recognition of her contribution to contemporary art and cultural expression, Zohra Opoku has been nominated for the GhanaWeb Excellence Awards in the Visual Arts Category, celebrating her innovation and impact within the creative industry.

Ablade Glover

Ablade Glover FGA, FRSA, CV (born 1934) is a celebrated Ghanaian painter and educator renowned for his profound influence on contemporary African art. Over several decades, he has built an international reputation through his vibrant and expressive works, which often explore urban life, cultural identity, and social dynamics in West Africa.

A seminal figure on the West African art scene, Glover has exhibited widely across Africa, Europe, and the Americas, contributing significantly to the global recognition of Ghanaian and African visual arts.

Beyond his artistic practice, he has shaped generations of artists through his work as an educator, mentoring students and fostering excellence in fine arts education.

In acknowledgment of his lifelong contributions to painting, art education, and cultural heritage, Ablade Glover has been nominated for the GhanaWeb Excellence Awards in the Visual Arts Category, celebrating his enduring legacy, creativity, and impact on both national and international art communities.

Anita Pearl Ankor

Anita Pearl Ankor is a Ghanaian painter and creative entrepreneur who has made

remarkable strides in the visual arts industry. After completing her education, she served as a national service personnel in Swedru before discovering her passion for painting in 2015, inspired by the works of a renowned painter. She is the founder and CEO of NYTAZ Arts, an art company specialising in murals, pencil art, and interior and exterior painting.

Through her work, she transforms spaces with creativity and precision, while also promoting the value of artistic expression and visual storytelling in Ghana.

In recognition of her innovative contributions to the arts and her role as a creative entrepreneur, Anita Pearl Ankor has been nominated for the GhanaWeb Excellence Awards in the Visual Arts Category, celebrating her impact, talent, and dedication to developing the creative sector.

Amewugah Nathaniel

Amewugah Nathaniel, popularly known as Kruz K Makeup, is a Ghanaian creative

entrepreneur, special effects (SFX) makeup artist, and educator renowned for his

transformative work in film, theatre, and music videos. He completed his Diploma in Media Arts at GH Media School, his WASSCE at Hohoe EP Senior High School, Hohoe, and his BECE at Dandinas Preparatory School, Accra. He is also an accredited SFX makeup facilitator.

Kruz K broke onto the creative scene in 2016 and has since contributed his

makeup expertise to numerous film and music projects, including The Recruitment, Lasmid’s music video, Terminus, Agency Tsutsue, Legbagbe, Stonebwoy’s Anloga Junction Album 95 movie, Toxic, Imagine (short film), Famous (movie), Catch Them Young (movie), Ato Kwabena (movie), Accra Medic (TV series), War from the Archives (movie), and many more.

His work spans feature films, TV series, music videos, commercials, and stage productions, making him one of Ghana’s most versatile and sought-after makeup artists. Beyond his professional work, Kruz K is passionate about education and mentorship.

He has conducted high school tours at schools such as Methodist Girls SHS, Nungua SHS, and Labone SHS, teaching students the art of theatre, makeup, and stage performance and inspiring a new generation of creative talent. Kruz K’s dedication and creativity have earned him numerous accolades, including:
