The Super Clash is set for February 15, 2026 in Kumasi The Super Clash is set for February 15, 2026 in Kumasi

Ghana’s most accomplished and top-rated referee, Daniel Laryea, has been appointed to officiate the highly anticipated Super Clash between Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak at the iconic Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday.

The appointment underscores the magnitude of the fixture, the crown jewel of Ghana’s domestic football calendar, as two of the nation’s fiercest rivals collide in Kumasi with pride, points, and redemption on the line.

Laryea, widely regarded as the country’s top-rated referee, will be assisted by Paul Atimaka and Seth Abletor in what promises to be a high-intensity encounter. Known for his calm authority and sharp decision-making, Laryea is no stranger to pressure-filled assignments.

    A referee with continental pedigree

The Super Clash comes on the back of Laryea’s historic milestone on the continental stage. He recently became the first Ghanaian referee in 54 years to officiate a semi-final at the Africa Cup of Nations, taking charge of the high-stakes showdown between Morocco national football team and Nigeria national football team.

That landmark achievement firmly re-established Ghana’s presence on the elite refereeing map, highlighting Laryea’s consistency, authority, and competence at the highest level of African football. His appointment for Sunday’s clash is a clear vote of confidence in his ability to manage games of enormous significance.

    Redemption on the line

Both Kotoko and Hearts head into the encounter nursing wounds from early exits in the FA Cup Round of 64 — a rare and disappointing chapter for two clubs accustomed to competing deep into competitions.

The Porcupine Warriors, backed by their passionate Kumasi faithful, will be eager to turn frustration into fuel as they seek to leapfrog their rivals on the league table. After 21 matches, they trail Hearts by just a single point, adding further intrigue to an already combustible fixture.

Hearts of Oak, currently fourth with 36 points, travel to the Garden City determined to consolidate their standing and deliver a statement performance on hostile turf.

    A stage set for drama

The Super Clash rarely disappoints. It is a fixture defined by intensity, history and unyielding rivalry. With Daniel Laryea, fresh from continental acclaim , holding the whistle, expectations are high that officiating standards will match the magnitude of the occasion.

As the two giants lock horns under the floodlights in Kumasi, Ghana’s finest referee will once again stand at the center of the drama, trusted to ensure that football, not controversy headlines the nation’s biggest showdown.
