Ghanaian sprinter Joseph Paul Amoah has assured fans that the national men’s 4x100m relay team will fight for a medal at the ongoing 2026 African Senior Athletics Championships in Accra following disappointment in the individual sprint events.
Amoah expressed frustration after missing out on a podium finish in the men’s 100m final, where he placed fourth despite entering the competition as one of Ghana’s strongest medal hopes. Fellow Ghanaian sprinter Abdul-Rasheed Saminu also failed to finish in the top three, ending the country’s hopes of a medal in the event.
Speaking after the race, Amoah admitted the result was disappointing but remained optimistic ahead of the relay competition.
“I’m disappointed but I’m sure in the coming days we’re going to fix stuff. Relays is tomorrow, we’re going to miss Ben-Azamati but we’re hoping to let whatever team that we put together be a good one,” he said.
“We will assure Ghanaians that we will get to the finals and make sure that we get a medal.”
The men’s 4x100m relay team will now carry Ghana’s hopes of another podium finish as the championships continue in Accra.
