Ghana defender Nathaniel Adjei played full throttle as FC Lorient defeated Annecy to climb to the top of the French Ligue 2 on Saturday.
On matchday 9 of the ongoing French second-tier championship, the Orange lads expertly delivered what was asked of them in front of their raucous supporters against Annecy FC.
Annecy FC established an early lead in the match, scoring inside 7 minutes via forward Kapit Djoco.
Despite dominating possession, Lorient failed to translate it into goals before referee Robin Chapapria concluded the first half.
Lorient fought to tie the game ten minutes after the recess through Eli Kroupi, before Joel Mugisha took the lead with a spectacular shot in the 70th minute.
Kroupi doubled Lorient’s lead three minutes later, connecting with Laurent Abergel’s exquisite pass on the edge of the box.
Sambou Soumano, who came on as a substitute for Mohamed Bamba halfway through the second half, scored his team’s fourth goal of the match in the 88th minute with a straightforward finish.
But despite the score, Annecy kept to their strategy and scored through Travis Dago in the 92nd minute, but it was too late as the game finished 4-2.
The victory sees Lorient climb to the summit of the standings with 19 points from 9 outings.
Adjei was formidable at the back for Oliver Pantaloni. He finished with another high rating of 7.0.
The 22-year-old has become a mainstay in the heart of defense after regaining full fitness.
Lorient will play as guests to Rodez at Stade Paul-Lignon on Friday, October 25.
