Ghana Football Association Communications Director Henry Asante Twum says the Black Stars’ upcoming clash with Nigeria in London will be another high-stakes encounter.

The two West African arch-rivals are preparing to face off in the 2025 Unity Cup.

The match, scheduled for Wednesday, May 28, will serve as the second semi-final of the four-nation tournament.

The competition, organised by Afro Sports and dubbed The Best in the West at the Afro Classico Contest, will bring together Ghana, Nigeria, Jamaica, and Trinidad and Tobago in the United Kingdom.

“We received this proposal [Unity Cup] from Afro Sports [UK-based match agency] and then we expressed interest in it,” Twum said.

“We are not overly concerned about results. We are concerned about our team-building agenda.”

He added, “We are very much also aware that, you know, matches between Nigeria and Ghana are always difficult.”

The first semi-final on Tuesday, May 27, will feature Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz against Trinidad and Tobago’s Soca Warriors, in what is being promoted as the first-ever TriniJam match on UK soil.

The winners of the semi-finals will meet in the final on Saturday, May 31, preceded by a third-place playoff between the losing sides.
