Union Berlin defender Derrick Köhn has thrown down a strong challenge to Black Stars head coach Otto Addo, declaring his ambition to secure a place in Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The 27-year-old left-back made the remarks in an interview with Sporty FM after being named in Ghana’s 26-man squad for upcoming international friendlies. Ghana will face Austria in Vienna on March 27 before taking on Germany in Stuttgart on March 30.

Köhn emphasized that the matches present a crucial opportunity to prove his worth ahead of the World Cup, insisting he is determined to deliver standout performances.

He added that his goal is to make it impossible for the technical team to overlook him when final selections are made for the tournament.

Having made his debut for Ghana in late 2025, Köhn faces competition for the left-back role, particularly from regular starter Gideon Mensah.

However, the former Hannover 96 defender is confident his current form in the Bundesliga will give him the edge as he looks to cement his place in the national team.
